MEDITERRANEAN SEA BRANCH

The Alexandria Branch of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) is one of the oldest and most important research institutions in Egypt and may be in the Middle East and the Arab region as a whole. It has been specifically established,as a one of the four branches of the NIOF, for scientific research in the field of Marine Sciences and Fisheries. Its policy is carried out through intensive research programs in the field of applied research, and in all specialties of marine science, fisheries, aquaculture and oceanography. Moreover, it provides a variety of professional opportunities and services stemming from the field of scientific and research experiences in the Institute. This is achieved by applying the Institute's strategy over the last century and the next years, which mainly depends on finding solutions to the problems of scientific, environmental, economic and social importance, whether on the regional or international level, taking into consideration the global perspective, as well as the global challenges facing the beach and aquatic environments in the late 21st century. And I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the honorable scientists and members of the research Institute for their support and effort in work through their participation and representation of the Institute in other international, regional and local forums. And also for all technical and administrative teams who have dedicated themselves to work for the success of the Alexandria Branch of NIOF.

RED SEA BRANCH

Hurghada Branch is one of the oldest branches in which increasing the awareness of oceanography that started since 1932. This branch was the main edifice of this science in Egypt and the Arab world and became the window on the recent studies on oceanography and the Red Sea creatures that God has endowed us. People should be made aware of ways of protecting and preserving marine environment and its contents including colorful fishes and coral reefs which are deemed the main source of tourism in the Governorate. I hope that efforts exerted by the researchers will be intensified, cooperation and support will be provided to them by all the stakeholders and authorities concerned for raising standard of the institute and preservingthis aspect of Egypt's national wealth.

Suez and Aqaba Gulfs Branch

The Suez and Aqaba Gulfs Branch, National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries was established at Suez Governorate to monitor, conserve, improve and develop the marine resources in the northern Red Sea and Suez Canal. It is a Governmental research institute that played a vital role in food security and water quality. The Branch is specialized in fisheries and marine governance as well sustainable development of fisheries and coastal areas of the Suez and Aqaba Gulfs and Suez Canal. Also, the Branch is frequently teaming-up with institutions/colleagues from other disciplines in order to develop suitable solutions to the problems that facing the aquatic resources in the country. Three scientific divisions with their labs: fisheries, marine environment and aquaculture are presented in the Branch covering all marine subjects like fisheries management, fish biology, fish stock assessment, hydrobiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, marine chemistry, marine physics, marine geology, aquaculture, coral reefs ecology, marine pollution, …etc.

INLAND WATER AND AQUACULTURE BRANCH

In the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), we believe that scientific research is the basis of development, lifeblood and central pillar of advancement and development of the national economy. That is why the Inland Water branch which is deemed one of the most important pillars of NIOF endeavours to be leading in providing sustainable development of water resources and increasing productivity of the fish wealth. One of the key pillars for maintaining Egypt's food security according to the related international standards and scientific grounds is the fish wealth.Scientific personnel of elite members of Research Authorities and young researchers who have assumed preparing and sticking to the scientific plans required for feeding all the research projects in accordance with the International Standards on Quality Control, recognizing importance of achieving food security and keeping up with the global development. From this standpoint, Inland Water branch and its stations work hard, as an integrated system, to achieve our institute's mission in the light of its objectives which are to work on making a scientific breakthrough in the provision of food along with preserving Egypt's water resources of the Nile and the Egyptian lakes.
